Q: I keep hearing that your services and goods are free. But then I hear you require points to buy diapers and furniture and stuff. If I am using points how are the items free?
A: It is true – everything here at the Center is free. There is no cost – EVER.
But it is also true that some items cost points.
These points are earned. They can be earned in various ways. The easiest way is by simply keeping your appointment. For every visit with a peer counselor you receive ten points. We also have Bible studies that range in value. For every study you complete you will receive points.
There are also life skills classes such as the Earn While You Learn program. Lessons vary in length from twenty minutes to approximately 2 hours. Points are earned when you complete the lesson. The amount of points earned is based upon the length of the lesson from about 50 points to 150 points.
Other classes are available such as Parenting and Childbirth Education Classes which also earn points.
The points themselves have no monetary value and can only be redeemed here at the Woman’s Enrichment Center. Items such as diapers, toiletries, furniture and toys can all be “purchased” with points.
If you have any questions about our point system or any of our other services please contact us during our regular business hours: Tuesdays 9am to 7pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9am to 4pm. We can be reached at 706-745-7518 or you may contact us by email at [email protected]
Q: Can you explain what SIDS is and what it is caused by?
A: SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The truth is there is no known reason why it happens. What is known is that it is the leading cause of death in infants between 1 month and 1 year of age and the third leading cause of death in infants birth to 1 year of age (behind congenital abnormalities and short gestation/low birth weight).
Even though the cause is not known there are some things one can do to lower the risk.
• Babies sleep safer on their back.
• Do not allow smoking around your baby.
• Do not let your baby become too hot or too cold while sleeping.
• Avoid products that claim they reduce the risk of SIDS. Most have not been tested for safety and effectiveness.
• Keep soft objects such as toys and loose bedding out of your baby’s sleep area.
• Keep you baby close, but NOT in your bed during his/her sleeping times.
These are just a few things you can do to reduce the risk SIDS. If you would like more information please contact the Woman’s Enrichment Center. We can be contacted at 706-745-7518 during our regular business hours of Tuesdays 9am to 7pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9am to 4pm. We are located at 218 Jones Street in Blairsville next to Fire Station 10.
